Tackling Peak Oil, Climate Change and Economic Breakdown

Where does money come from and why isn't there enough?

The Open Source 2015
The hub of The Open Source 2015 is Lower Garfield St Belfast. From Friday May 8th to Sunday May 10th the street will be closed to traffic and buzzing with music, art, theatre, workshops, good food, interesting discussions, laughter and craic. Positive Money NI are facilitating a workshop explaining money as debt (Sunday 1pm) and also over the three days will be engaging with shoppers and workers on the main commercial street Royal Avenue. A team of volunteers wearing high visibility vests will approach people and ask

'Do you know where money comes from?'

With charm and humour, the volunteers will engage anyone interested in a short conversation.  They will also hand out these bank notes. One side has a cartoon strip explaining the current system and how it could be much better. The other side has information about The Opensource programme; the Positive Money and Sensible Money websites and some possible alternative currencies. The notes can also be used as currency - in exchange for a Fairtrade tea or coffee.
