Petition to save Prehen Woods gathers momentum
The petition calls on the Minister, Alex Attwood to overturn a Planning Service decision which has granted permission for a housing development at Prehen Woods. The petition also calls on the minister to set up an independent inquiry into how the Planning Service could have granted this permission to build on the site of one of the last tracts of ancient woodland in Northern Ireland which has Nature Reserve status and a full tree preservation order.
The wood is the habitat of one of the last colonies of the Red Squirrel; other creatures who use the wood include Long-Eared Owls, protected species of Bats, Badgers who are protected under the Wildlife Act, a wide range of Butterflies and fungi, some of which are classified as Red Alert species etc.....
